Stella J Richey is an international visual artist and designer.Her works in visual arts concentrate on ceramic sculpture and oil painting. Her jewelry and fashion lines are original wearable art with influence from ancient cultures.
Stella was born in the US, where she completed her education in Fine Arts and Photography before moving to Spain to study Design. Her insatiable appetite for knowledge guided her to study Acupuncture and Chinese medicine in Australia before embarking on a world journey that lasted 15 years.
While studying medicine, she began attending discourses at the local Buddhist monastery. Intrigued by Asian thought, philosophy, and religion, she began to examine Buddhist doctrine and Taoist poems.
Her family background is Christian, and Christian symbolism frequently appears in her work in unison with other Theologies. Her work aims to examine the essence of religion and moral code emphasizing the common points cross-culturally.
Her education in ceramic sculpture began in the US at University, later she apprenticed in Indonesia and China with local masters. She currently is working from her studio in Old Cairo in the ancient ceramic site of Al Fukhareen. All her ceramic sculptures are hand built or wheel thrown by herself, using local materials.
Her oil paintings possess deep philosophical meanings, presented in a veneer of pop surreal. She has undergone training in oil painting in both the US and Tibet, China.
Her work has been exhibited in the US, Greece, China, and Egypt.
Her paintings and sculptures are expressions of the years she spent travelling and the cultures she experienced.
Her jewelry and fashion collection are custom designed and produced in Cairo by local craftsmen. She has been working with gemstones for over 10 years and only uses natural, quality gemstones. All jewelry pieces are one-of-a-kind, made with 925 silver.
Mystic couture by Stella Jae is a line of sustainable art wear with inspiration from the ancient mystics. Modesty and mystique are key words for this line of everyday robes for contemporary goddesses. Stella began designing fashion in India and studied fashion design in Tibet, China.
